2015 Hungarian Open - Jiang Tianyi, Lee Ho Ching and Jiang Huajun Progress in Budapest

Jiang Tianyi alongside Lee Ho Ching and Jiang Huajun all enjoyed a success day at the GAC Group 2015 ITTF World Tour Hungary Open in Budapest on Friday 30th January.

Experiencing minimal problems, Jiang Tianyi, the no.2 seed, progressed to the third round of the Men’s Singles event, recording wins against Denmark’s Kasper Sternberg (1-11, 11-9, 13-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7 ) and in opposition to Russia’s Alexey Liventsov, the no.16 seed (11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 12-14, 11-2, 11-3).

Similarly it was a smooth path for Lee Ho Ching and Jiang Huajun in the Women’s Singles event.

Lee Ho Ching, the no.3 seed, overcame India’s Ankita Das (11-7, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-5) and Japan’s Miyu Kato, the no.18 seed (12-10, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9); whilst Jiang Huajun, the no.9 seed, recovered from a three games to one deficit to beat Russia’s Yulia Prokhorova (11-9, 9-11, 5-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-9).

Likewise, in the Women’s Doubles event, Hong Kong enjoyed success. Jiang Huajun and Li Ching Wan emerged as the only partnership to record a first round upset. They beat Singapore’s Lin Ye and Zhou Yihan, the no.5 seeds (10-12, 11-9, 13-11, 11-4).

Success for Jiang Huajun and Li Ching Wan; there was also first round Women’s Doubles success for Doo Hoi Kem and Lee Ho Ching. The no.2 seeds, they accounted for Ukraine’s Tetyana Bilenko and Ganna Gaponova in their first round duel (11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8).

Meanwhile, for Ho Kwan Kit there was success in the Under 21 Men’s Singles event as there was for Doo Hoi Kem in the counterpart Under 21 Women’s Singles competition; both occupying the top seeded position in their respective events, both advanced to the quarter-finals.

Ho Kwan Kit accounted for Gleb Shamruk of Belarus (11-5, 11-9, 11-4), Frenchmen Enzo Angles (11-7, 11-9, 11-9) and Belgium’s Robin Devos (11-4, 5-11, 11-3, 8-11, 11-5); Doo Hoi Kem overcame Nathalie Marchetti, like Robin Devos from Belgium (11-9, 11-9, 11-4) before ending the hopes of Singapore.

She beat Isabelle Siyun Li (11-6, 9-11, 13-11, 11-6) and Lin Ye (16-14, 11-9, 12-10) to reserve her place in the last eight.

Success but there was disappointment.

In the second round of the Women’s Singles event, Doo Hoi Kem, the no.6 seed, suffered defeat at the hands of the Slovak Republic’s Barbora Balazova in a full distance seven games duel (14-12, 11-5, 13-11, 8-11, 8-11, 9-11, 12-10); whilst Tie Yana, the no.17 seed, likewise experienced a full distance reverse. She was beaten by Spain’s Shen Yanfei (9-11, 13-11, 11-2, 11-13, 12-10, 7-11, 11-3).

Disappointment in the Women’s Singles event for Hong Kong; there was also disappointment in the Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles events.

Ho Kwan Kit and Wong Chun Ting both suffered second round exits. Ho Kwan Kit, the no.27 seed, was beaten by former Chinese international, Li Ping now representing Qatar (10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 11-8, 11-4); Wong Chun Ting, the no.5 seed, suffered defeat at the hands of Romania’s Ovidiu Ionescu, the no.32 seed (11-4, 11-7, 5-11, 11-9, 2-11, 11-9).

Defeat for Wong Chun Ting, there was also sadness in the Men’s Doubles event; in the opening round Tang Peng and Wong Chun Ting, the top seed, lost against the Czech Republic’s Tomas Konecny and Tomas Tregler (11-6, 11-9, 11-9).
