Nearly three decades ago, Hang Seng Bank and the Hong Kong Table
Tennis Association (HKTTA) teamed up to promote our shared passion
for table tennis. Our goal was to help this fun and fast-paced sport grow
while inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds across Hong Kong to
adopt more active lifestyles. Today, Hang Seng and the HKTTA are proud
to celebrate their long-standing partnership by hosting the Seamaster
2019 ITTF World Tour – Hang Seng Hong Kong Open, one of the world’s
biggest table tennis tournaments. This event was recently awarded the
Hong Kong Government’s prestigious ‘M’ Mark, becoming the first table
tennis tournament to achieve this status and thereby distinguishing itself
as a signature sports competition for the city.
The tournament was first held in Hong Kong in 2018. Over 200 players
from 34 countries and regions took part, with more than 11,000 spectators
flocking to Queen Elizabeth Stadium to see the action unfold in real time.
Hong Kong’s Wong Chun-ting and Ho Kwan-kit won the men’s doubles
title, demonstrating the city’s rising profile in international table tennis.
This year, Wong Chun-ting, Doo Hoi-kem, Lee Ho-ching and Minnie Soo
Wai-yam – all graduates of the Hang Seng Table Tennis Academy, a
talent development initiative between Hang Seng and the HKTTA – will be
part of the core team representing Hong Kong. As our city’s best players
continue to rise up the global ranks, the local community can look forward
to celebrating more table tennis success in the future.
Our title sponsorship of the Hang Seng Hong Kong Open reflects a
strong belief in how a passion for sport can help individuals overcome
challenges and achieve their dreams. The competition’s phenomenal
athletes – and the fans who cheer them on – embody the maxim that
“passion drives perseverance” and inspire us all to reach for greater
heights.
We are delighted to once again be a part of this exceptional tournament,
and to contribute to a strong future for the sport of table tennis in Hong
Kong.
